Genes
These genes are based on real canine genetics and determine coat colour, pattern, and pigment.

K - Dominant Black (K Locus)
Determines whether a dog expresses dominant black or allows the agouti pattern to appear.
  • KB – Dominant black
  • kbr – Brindle pattern
  • ky – Non-solid black (allows Agouti patterns)

E - Extension (E Locus)
Controls whether eumelanin (black/brown pigment) can be expressed in the coat.
  • Em – Masked (melanistic mask)
  • E – Normal pigment expression
  • Eg – Grizzle / Domino
  • Ea – Northern Domino
  • Eh – Cocker Spaniel sable
  • e – Recessive red

B - Brown (B Locus)
Controls whether black pigment remains black or becomes brown/liver.
  • B – Normal black pigment
  • b – Liver / brown pigment

D - Dilution (D Locus)
Dilutes eumelanin pigment.
  • D – Normal pigment
  • d – Diluted pigment (blue or isabella)

A - Agouti (A Locus)
Controls distribution of black pigment across the coat.
  • Ay – Sable
  • aw – Agouti / wolf sable
  • at – Tan points
  • a – Recessive black

R - RALY (Saddle Tan modifier)
This gene I think is one I've made up, but based on some possible information about how tan point/saddle is expressed.
  • R – Saddle pattern
  • r – Tanpoint

S - White Spotting (S Locus)
  • S – No white spotting
  • si – Irish spotting
  • sp – Piebald

T - Ticking (T Locus)
  • T – Ticking
  • Tr – Roan
  • t – Clear white

M - Merle (M Locus)
  • M – Merle
  • Mh – Harlequin merle
  • m – Non-merle

H - Harlequin (H Locus)
  • H – Harlequin
  • h – Non-harlequin

I - Intensity (I Locus)
Controls the intensity of red/yellow pigment.
  • I – Normal intensity
  • i – Diluted / pale phaeomelanin

Breed Specific Genes

Co - Cocoa
This is only found in French Bulldogs
  • Co – Normal pigment
  • co – Cocoa pigment

Z - Albino
This is only found in Dobermanns
  • Z – Normal pigmentation
  • z – Albino

Dm - Dalmatian Spotting
This is based on some speculation, some sources claim there is a "flecking" gene which is linked to the dalmatian spots. But I've made up my own gene to allow dalmatian spots to be expressed.
  • Dm – Dalmatian spots
  • dm – No Dalmatian spots

Miscellaneous Genes

G - Greying Gene
  • G – Progressive greying
  • g – Normal (no greying)
